Can any file/folder be tagged?
Any file/folder can be tagged. Thera are noname, type, location or size restrictions. It is even possible to tag a tag.
Can I add my own custom icons?
No, But you can use one of the more than 200 icons in various shapes and colors that are provided in the software.
Is it possible to tag files and folders on a network drive or NAS?
Yes, all files and folders on a networkdrive or NAS can be tagged.
Do tagged files stored on a cloud provider (i.e.OneDrive/Dropbox/etc) keep their tags when shared among several pc’s?
This function is under development. If you want to participate in our beta test program contact our support team.
Are wildcards supported when looking up tags in the Tag pane?
No, this not supported. Tag lookup is done using fully qualified names.
Can Tagging for Windows be used in a networked multi user scenario?
This is possible by sharing the used Tag group on the network location. For detailed instructions contact our support team.
What kind of license structure does Tagging for Windows offer?
Tagging for Windows offers two kind of licenses. A free license and a paid license. The free license has to be renewed
every month. The paid license is based on a yearly subscription.Does Tagging for Windows work in 3th party file explorers?
Tagging for Windows is only supported for the Windows File Explorer.
Can I use the Taskbar search for searching tags?
Searching using the desktop Taskbar search is not supported.
Are my tags and tagged files and folders preserved during an update of Tagging for Windows?
Tags and tagged files and folders will be kept during an update of Tagging for Windows.
Is tagging information of files and folders updated when moved/copied/deleted or
renamed with 3th party tools?Tagging information is only updated when moved/copied/deleted or renamed with the Windows File Explorer.
Can I rename/hide/closeor delete the Base tag group?
The Base tag group cannot be renamed/hidden/closed or deleted. It is used by Tagging for Windows to store the tags
that are created in the Tags pane.Can I hide the Tag pane?
The Tag pane can be hidden. There is an option to Show/Hide the Tag pane.
Is it possible to apply a tag to all subfolders and/or files when you tag a folder?
Tags cannot be applied recursively..
Which UI languages does Tagging for Windows support?
The main language of Tagging for Windows is English.
Does a tagged file/folder keep its tag when the file/folder is moved/renamed?
Yes, if a tagged file/folder is moved/renamed with the Windows File Explorer.
Is it possible to share tags and tagged files on a LAN?
This is possible by sharing the relevant Tag Group on the network location. For detailed instructions contact our support team.
Are there any limitations on the number of tags and tagged files/folders?
Tagging for Windows does not have a build in limitation on the number of tags and tagged files/folders.
Does Tagging for Windows use the Windows File Explorer permissions system?
No, Tagging for Windows does not use that facility.
Does Tagging for Windows support an API for use in 3th party apps?
There is no API available for use in 3th party applications.
Can I us a combination of Tags for searching my tagged files?
Smartviews can be used to search your tagged files using any combination of tags.
Is it possible to apply a set of tags assigned from one file to another one?
Yes, you can.
Select the file that you have tagged with multiple tags.
Select in the Tag Pane (below the Folderview) the tags you want to use.
Select in the context menu ‘Add to ‘Tag With’.
On other files you can use this collection of tags.
Select one or more files and select in the context menu 'Tag with' and select the collection you just made.
